YSL Rouge Pur Couture 5: Beige Etrusque

OMIGOD. Shut the front door! I have found the perfect nude lipstick in Yves Saint Laurent 5 (Beige Etrusque).
Rouge Pur Couture feels like silk on the lips. It goes on very creamy (almost like butter just like my first ever YSL lipstick) and has great colour payoff. The shade of Beige Etrusque in particular is a little hard to describe. It is a nude, that much is for sure, but I can’t say that it’s totally peach because it has a little bit of brown to it. It definitely isn’t pink. It’s like the shade of your own lips, perfected. Does that even make sense? Rouge Pur Couture lipsticks come in a luxurious gold case with the iconic logo etched on the front. What’s really nifty about the case is that it has enough reflective properties that, if in a bind, you can use as a mirror for putting on your lipstick — pretty handy! At $38 big ones, this is pretty damn expensive. I’m sure that there are tons of cheaper dupes out there, so this definitely would fall under the “little rewards you give yourself every now and then” category.

SO PRETTY. So glad we ended up getting this one! YSL lipsticks are just so damn photogenic, too.

WOW it is expensive, but wow it is gorgeous! Agree with C, can we get a photo of it? I bet you look amazing in it. :) I have heard nothing but good things about YSL lipstick but daaaayum, as if my cheapo butt will spend that much on a lipstick. Oh Santa….

Ugh. Yes, it is. In all fairness, though, it really is amazing! Opening a box of YSL lipstick is almost like a religious experience for me.

Try it out, Renee… My approach to buying luxury lipstick is: always get a shade you will wear very often. In this case, nude can be worn day or night, so I’m sure I’ll get a lot of wear out of this tube.

And there’s nothing wrong with treating to yourself to a little something nice every now and again ;-) .

I saw it on Denise’s blog and wanted to swatch it but haven’t gotten around to it yet. If I buy it, I’m blaming you two!

This lip colour is gorgeous. I totally agree with you about splurging on wearable shades. I do the same too because I like keeping one really nice lipstick in my handbag all the time so in the event I need to apply some, I can just apply that one without wondering if it will go with the rest of my makeup or not – and that’s where a classic nude lipstick wins.

I haven’t tried any YSL lipsticks – are they moisturizing? I’m little miss dry lips :(

Yes it is. It was probably made by the gods. It’s super beautiful. I DIE!

And I think every girl should have that one luxurious makeup item in their purses that’s foolproof. And, let’s face it, who doesn’t love a nude shade?

I’m curious; what’s yours??

P.S. They are very moisturizing.

Yay, good to hear they are moisturizing. Will swatch them when I get the chance. My “one luxurious item” Is the Burberry Lip Mist Natural Sheer Lipstick in Brown Sugar (203). I keep it with me most of the time and especially if I’m out for dinner or at a party, I use it. It’s so easy to apply, I don’t need a mirror either.

Yay!

And I love lipsticks that don’t require that much precision — very hassle-free. I haven’t tried any Burberry lipsticks yet. I’m sure they’re great, but right now I’ve caught the YSL bug and I can’t seem to shake it off.

hello :) Was wondering how does this compare to MAC’s discontinued slimshine lipstick in bare? It was my everyday lipstick but sadly has been discontinued. Even MAC’s Bare Again lipstick and Benefits Skinny Dip doesnt quite measure up to an exact dupe. Still on the hunt..

Hi Nessa :-D

Oh man, I can barely recall how Bare used to look on me, but… okay…. Hmmmm….. I’ll compare it to Bare Again (BA, henceforth) which I also have. Between BA and BE, I’d say BE is better by a long shot. Its finish is not as shiny as the Sheen Supreme which is also slightly less shiny than Slimshine.

As far as the colour goes, I prefer BE over BA. The colour of BA falls flatter on my skin tone whereas BE, I find, complements it a lot better. Check out this Makeup Monday post … And I think BE is slightly terracotta pink? At least that’s how I find it on me…

Hope that helps a little :-D
