Would you ever: Tattoos

Get a tattoo?

Back when I was in high school I desperately wanted to get a tattoo — and that was when Chinese symbol and armband tattoos were in the vogue. Like I really, really, really wanted one. And I would have gone for it were it not for fear of my parents kicking my ass. Fast forward ten years and I’m so glad I never went for it.

Nowadays I just act as a spectator when it comes to body art. I have a slight appreciation for it, but wouldn’t really get one myself. But don’t get me wrong, people have been marking their skin for centuries for socio-religious or whatever reason. It’s just that if I were to get something permanently etched on my skin then, believe you me, it better mean something damn special to me. And let’s face it, skin sags as we age and I’d hate to see that sun turn into a mere blob by the time I’m 70. Equally unappealing is having to explain that it was once a sun.

And typos. Yikes.

Rihanna recently walked out with a brand spankin’ new tattoo which reads “rebelle fleur.” In English, Rebel Flower makes sense, but in French her tattoo means “Flower Rebel.” Whether she intended for her tattoo to turn out that way, I have no idea, but hers exemplifies the perils of getting a tattoo. It’s forever and ever and ever. Amen.

Now, we have the technology to “erase” tattoos at our disposal should we run into an “oops” situation, but you may get some scarring and slight discolouration as a by-product of the procedure. So, is it really worth it? Will this tattoo mean as much to me in 20 years as it does to me at this moment?

Would you ever get a tattoo?

As for myself, I can’t say that I never will. Certain circumstances or events in my life may inspire me to get one. Or not.  However, don’t expect to see me with a “shhh..” tattoo or a fingerstache anytime soon. And, no amount of alchohol will ever drive me to do this to my face:

I live in Toronto and see a LOT more girls with tattoo sleeves than ever before. Totally blame Miami Ink and LA ink for that lol.

Nah… As much as I admire others who have cool tattoos… all I can think of is that when I grow old and my skin sags, it’s going to look like a crumpled tattoo… And I could never decide on one thing to be on my body. I change my clothes, makeup, perfume all the time because I get bored…I won’t be able to change a tattoo so easily!

haha I’m exactly the same. I’m always changing stuff around and can never commit myself to a brand, style, etc., in particular so why a tattoo, right?

I do like it on others like Kat Von D. That girl has GUTS to tattoo such a huge portion of her body. AND face!

Ack, no. I don’t like tattoos, on others or myself. They’re just not my taste! :) Lol at that guy with the checked face! :)

Really? I don’t mind tattoos now, but used to really want one back then. Am I GLAD I didn’t!
Anyway, I think tattoos are for those who want to pay tribute to someone they hold dear or something of great significance to them. That I can appreciate… it’s when I see rose/butterfly/music tattoos that I say: “Really?! That’s it?”

But that guy takes the cake.. You can’t be more conspicuous than that! hahaha
