Hi Ladies! How is everyone doing? Done your Christmas shopping yet?? As for myself well… I’m a professional procrastinator and leaving things off until the very last minute is a special talent of mine. Essays, projects, shopping, you name it. But there is one thing I can’t procrastinate on and that’s winterizing (is that even a word?) my skin care.
While winter makes everything around us all pretty and fa-la-la-la-la, it can wreak havoc on our skin and hair (as I had written about in one of my previous posts). Our skin loses a lot of moisture all thanks to low humidity in the air and dry indoor air due to the heater. As a result of moisture loss, skin becomes irritated and starts to flake — SO not pretty. So, what can you do to keep your face looking all fresh and glowy? Here are some pretty simple tips:
- Exfoliate, exfoliate, exfoliate. Taking off the excess dead skin cell means allows our skin to absorb moisturizers and creams much more efficiently. Also, this helps our skin look more fresh and vibrant as excess dead skin cells make our skin appear dull.
- During the drier winter months, light moisturizers just won’t cut it which necessitates the use of heavier (oil based) moisturizers or creams. Sometimes I wear vaseline out to walk the dog, take him to the park or even before I go to sleep and I find that really helps in sealing in the moisture.
- Turn that humidifier on to make up for the loss of moisture indoors.
- Never forget to wear SPF. That’s right; just because summer is gone does not mean the sun is on vacation or something. In fact, the snow acts as a mirror reflecting (and amplifying) the sun’s rays back to us which means that SPF is an all year kind of thing.
- Drink lots of water. No explanation needed there.
See, winter skin care really isn’t complicated, right?
Ok back in panic mode. I have to brave the crowds at the mall (ooh I hate crowded malls) and cross off the last few names off my list. Eeeek! Wish me luck!
