What I Love About Being a Girl

Yes. Girl. I consider myself a “girl” even at the age of 25. ‘Why,’ you ask? Well, I refuse to believe I’m even in my 20′s — let alone mid-20′s. I suppose this will continue until I’m married, with kids, or some other reason that completely escapes me as I type this entry up. But I digress.

Just this past Saturday, I went out with a good friend of mine, Vicki, for a good workout and dinner afterward. Whilst in the shower room, we got to talking about beauty products — good mascara, hair spray, this, that. You know, the girly stuff. It got me thinking about life would be like as a guy.

Sports, cars, food, girls, beer, action movies, UFC, Fantasy Football/Baseball/Basketball/etc., and repeat. Very simple-minded answers, but I’m totally clueless! LOL. My bf likes all of the above minus the girls. And beer. Yeah, minus that, too. :P

Anyway, during my drive back home, I made a mental list of things I love about being a girl:

  1. Beauty Products: Mascara, Eyeshadow, Blush, Eyeliner, oh my! I’ve got to admit though that there are times it feels a bit tedious, but I do love to get ready for some event or other (I don’t consider my daily mascara+concealer+brow powder getting ready). What I also love is talking about my obsession with others. Sharing tips and tricks and learning about new products (favourites or otherwise). My love for beauty products is what spurred this little blog of mine, after all.
  2. Taking off makeup and staying in: Doesn’t it feel good to wash off all that makeup, let your hair down, and just watch chick flick marathons in your jammies? Add some coffee, biscuits, and a little precipitation outside and you’ve got yourself a little piece of heaven right at home. Ahhhh
  3. Chick Flicks: Yes, as mentioned above, I do like ‘em. If it’s extra sappy, corny, campy, or all of the above, then all the better. RIGHT?! From 80′s classics like Pretty in Pink (swoons), Adventures in Babysitting, and Working Girl. Now and Then, The Babysitter’s Club, Clueless, She’s All That, and Ever After from the 90′s. And, more recently, Pride and Prejudice, The Notebook, and Bridget Jones’ Diary. I love them all! Well, most of them. And don’t bother denying it because you do too :P . I also love that I can just gush about said movies and not have to feel self-conscious about myself.
  4. Girl Talks/Chats: Don’t lie. You like ‘em. Whether it’s over coffee, dinner, lunch, wherever, talking with girl-friends are always fun. This is when friends catch up on each one is up to. Back in high school conversations always revolved around boys, who’s with who, boy drama, relationship drama; see a pattern here? Now it’s who’s settling down, so and so just had a kid, so and so number 2 just had their third kid! Whatever topic or setting, it’s always nice to catch up with friends and just have plain ol’ girl talk, right?
  5. Pop: This one makes me laugh. I still listen to them now, but nowhere like I did when I was in my teens. *NSYNC, Backstreet Boys, Britney, Christina, Boyzone, I could go on. They were who I was all about. I lived for their stickers and posters (from BOP, of course) and slavishly put them up on every available space on my wall. My heart would skip a beat every time one of their music videos came on and fell asleep to their songs. I idolized Britney (not so much Christina since there was a rumoured ‘feud’ between the two and I was PRO-Britney). Boy bands and popsters — I miss them. And, no, all the Justin Biebers in the world combined can’t hold a candle to any one of these groups/singers. Le Sigh.
  6. Spa Days (Manicures, Pedicures, and/or Facials): Isn’t it nice to treat yourself to some pampering after a long and stressful week at work or school? I honestly think that everyone (yes, guys included) owe it to themselves to get a facial or even a mani/pedi. Oh, and I love nail polish on my toes ;)
  7. Being a nurturer/confidant/support system: This is just my opinion, but I think that all girls are natural born nurturers. Some of us are shy and soft spoken and others are loud and outgoing, but all of us are capable of nurturing others. Whether it be to a pet (Hi, Dashly!), a significant other, another girl-friend, family, or even a complete stranger; we girls are always there to listen, nurture, lend a helping hand, embrace, or lean on. We are also strong and we will stand up for the ones we love and care for.

So, that is what I came up with although I’m sure there are many more reasons that I can’t think of at the moment. What do you love about being a girl?
