Tools

Good makeup brushes are somewhat of a rarity. Good makeup brushes that are not more expensive than an entire day’s worth of meals are almost impossible to find. This is where eco-friendly, cruelty-free company, EcoTools, steps in and saves the day.

I have a couple of brushes from EcoTools and let me just tell you how heavenly they feel on the skin. I’ve got some brushes from MAC and Makeup For Ever and I’d have to say that the ones from EcoTools are the softest. Seriously, the bristles are as soft as silk. What’s even better is the pricepoint. So. Cheap! A powder blush cost me, if I remember correctly, less than $15 CAD which is CHEAP for a powder blush, let alone one that is so soft on the skin.

Anyway, thank goodness because the powers that be over at EcoTools have decided to release a few more brushes next month, three of which are photographed above. One is the Kabuki brush which is indispensable in blending in or buffing away excess powder; a smudge brush, great for perfecting the smokey look, which also conveniently includes a sharpener (one less item in your makeup bag to remember!); and a foundation brush (great for on those on the go) in a retractable case to keep the germs away and ensure that your makeup bag does not get dirty.

The new line drops next month in the U.S. I’m hoping that they release these babies soon here in Toronto, too.

Have you tried the EcoTools brush line? What do you think about it?

postscript: Yes, my laptop is still out. I’m too scared to turn it on. Will wait another day then give it a go. Want to cry. Like now.

I was perusing Renee’s BeautyFool blog (ha ha, get it?) one day and came across this wonderful post about her makeup bag’s contents.

She’s got some awesome stuff in her makeup bag and it inspired me to do one of my own!

And just to let you know, this is what I carry with me to the gym. I usually just bring one lipstick, one mascara, my ROC Minesol SPF20 for my lips, sunblock, and my oil blotting sheets. But that would be too boring!

brush

When I first started really getting into makeup, I couldn’t help but feel overwhelmed with the vast amount of makeup brushes out there. My head was swimming in the whats, whys and hows of makeup brushes, but it really need not be so confusing. It’s actually a lot easier than you think! Unless you’re going for very specific looks, all you really need are 5 brushes at most. So, what are they?

Eyes

  • Angled Eyeliner: This is honestly one of the most important part of any one’s beauty arsenal. Angled eyeliners serve two purposes: 1)to fill in the brows, and 2)to line the eyes.
Nice, polished eyebrows really do frame the face and, in fact, can make you look “made up” even without anything else. I also like to use this to create for cat/winged eyes. As far as what to get, angled liners-wise, I don’t think that there is any huge difference between cheap and high-end brands. However, make sure that the bristles are sturdy and are stiff enough to create solid lines. Nothing is worse than angled liners that bend too much when you apply products on. This is especially true for eyebrows as it results in uneven application. It will also take you forever to finish!
I recommend: ($)EcoTooLs’ Angled Eyeliner Brush (The bristles are great. Also, all EcoTools products are cruelty free, eco-friendly, and budget-friendly), ($$) Quo’s Liner/Brow Brush (Fairly cheap, but certainly delivers! I believe that this brand is only available in Canada),($$$) MAC’s 208 Angled Brow Bush (Tons more expensive than EcoTools, but you know that you’re paying for quality product that will last you years!)
