No, I wasn’t trying to suggest you use your 10 month old mascara because old makeup is the perfect breeding ground for germs and bacteria (yum!).
My old brow comb fell apart on me one day and, naturally, I went to the local drugstore to replace said comb when it hit me: Why spend $5.00 + (yes, I am quite the cheap-y
) when I can just re-use the brush applicators of old mascara that have reached their demise?
When your mascara is no longer good to use, you can just chuck the tube out and hold on to the brush applicator. Run it under hot water and wash off any remaining product using a gentle dishwashing detergent.
I love the eco-friend spin to this trick because why would I need to waste more products and packaging, right?
Loves it!

So, the day has finally arrived — your graduation day (yay!). Perhaps one of the most momentous events in your life, this day marks the end of years of, dare I say it, torture. It is the day you and academia finally break up; the day which marks the end of years of blood (just go with the flow, why don’t ya
), sweat, and tears. So, no more all nighters dedicated to finishing 20 page essays you always wish you had worked on when you had more time; no more cramming information into your noggin — okay, okay, okay I’ll shush now.
Anyway, to avoid regret and anguish years from now when you look at the 348 photos your camera-happy parents are surely going to take on your momentous occasion, here are some simple makeup and hair tips that I wish someone would have told me.

Big UGH: when your favourite lipstick breaks off from the tube and you can’t exactly glue it back on with crazy glue.
But fret not, you can just get an inexpensive pillbox and place your broken lipstick in one of the slots.
You can also use this trick to:
- Create your own lip palette: slice your lipsticks off the tube with a thin, sharp knife and place them into the compartments of the pillbox. Nuke it in the microwave in increments of about 5
minutes (OOPS TOO LONG!) seconds.* Great for yourself or as a gift!
- Finally trade in your tubes: MAC has this amazing program where for every 6 containers you give back, you will receive a lipstick or eyeshadow of your choice absolutely free (I LOVE THAT WORD!). So, when you’re almost done your lipstick and are itching to get your freebie already, simply lop off the remaining product and you’re good to go!
*Make sure to keep a close eye on your project for safety!
