Makeup

So, here I am at Pearson Airport waiting for my 13 hour (@@!#!) flight to Hong Kong then Manila and what better way to kill time than to blog, right?

Me being the professional procrastinator that I am waited until the night before my trip to start packing for a month-long vacation. I ended up pulling an all nighter, but still managed to find the time to take some photos of my bag’s guts for this post.

Huffington Post recently posted a photo of the first ever makeup ad that has not been retouched in Photoshop. The makeup and beauty industry is notorious for touching up photos, presenting a false sense of beauty and perfection, so it’s really quite refreshing to see shadows fall on unflattering areas, slightly dark under eye circles, and a few patches of dry (?) skin on the model’s arm.

Love that the ad has not been retouched to remove any flaws, but I kind of wish it did not look like it was taken in someone’s wall paneled basement. Am I just nitpicking now? hehe

What do you think of this ad?

Okay, okay. I’ll admit that I’m completely obsessed with finding out what makeup, creams, mists, cleansers — you name it! — other gals are carrying in their purses or have in the bathrooms. Guess you can call me a Peeping Tom Tammy because I seriously love to ogle at photos of others’ makeup bag guts and vanities.

So, I guess constantly stalking IntoTheGloss.com’s Top Shelf is a natural progression of my embarrassing obsession and Jen Brill’s vanity is my fave of the bunch.

Totally love that she reuses glass containers, like she did with a Diptyque candle container as a holder for her eyeliner and other miscellany. It’s personal touches like that that I am so fond of seeing in others’ vanities. And I am in complete lust with her Les Vernis collection! Must. Fight. Urge. To… Shop!!!

Check it out Jen’s inner (makeup) sanctum:
