Eyes

I don’t know exactly how long I’ve wanted to try YSL’s much sought after Touche Éclat, but it seems like it’s been years and years. Yes, I do have very bad under eye circles and need all the help I can get, but, still, I wasn’t willing to spend $50 CAD on a tube of concealer especially when there are a lot more affordable options available. So, in sum, yes, I’m more than okay to spend $40 on a tube of lipstick (Exhibits A and B), but no to a $50 concealer. I guess concealer/highlighter just doesn’t scream “luxury” in the way a tube of lipstick can.

Touche Éclat comes in a sleek gold “pen.” It has a black “click” end and it takes about a couple of clicks to get enough product out. The applicator is made of synthetic bristles. I have nothing bad to say about the packaging of the Touche Éclat. It’s super sleek and fuss-free. I kind of find it annoying that I have to always “click” to get the product out as I prefer a squeeze tube, but that’s just a personal preference.

Touche Éclat has a very emollient consistency and it was a breeze applying it. Shade 02, which is what I got (didn’t really have a choice there… more on this in a bit), seems a little on the light side, but it was actually just right since I’m all pasty right now lol. I didn’t find that it settled in the fine lines around my eyes (wooo hoooo!) and it didn’t ‘dry out’ after a couple of hours of wear. One and a half to two full clicks is enough for each eye and it does go on quite opaque. Honestly, I can see why YSL’s Touche Éclat has such a huge cult following. It does ‘illuminate’ the under eye area and gives your skin that coveted ‘glow.’ However, at $50 a pop, it is very much on the expensive side.
Think about it, concealers have a shelf life of 3-4 months which would mean that using Touche Éclat will cost you $15-$17/month. Good news is there is a dupe out there: Rimmel’s 2-in-1 concealer/highlighter which I have used in previous Makeup Mondays (Example) offers the same results at a fraction of the price of a Touche Éclat. I really should review that next!

Would I repurchase this? Probably not. I’m perfectly happy with the results I get with Rimmel. I bought this as part of a gift box which included a sample size of Rouge Pur Couture #09, a full sized Crayon Yeux Haute Tenue in black, and a mascara (the name of which escapes me at the moment) for $20. The store only had shade 02 in stock, so there’s my reason for not having a choice in the shade.

Potent serum gives every skin a second chance against lines, wrinkles, sun damage. In 4 weeks, see obvious reduction in lines, wrinkles, improved texture. At 12 weeks, the visible wrinkle-reducing power is remarkably close to a dermatological laser procedure. 63%, to be exact. Different commitment, different results. And yet impressive results guaranteed.

Where
Department stores and select locations (some Shoppers Drugmart carry the brand).

Bank Breaker
Moderately expensive (as with most Clinique products) at $25 CAD + taxes.

Why
My sleeping pattern is going to the pits yet again so I’m slowly starting to look like the undead with my heavy undereye bags and dark circles. Dark circles were my main concern when I bought this followed by taking the puffiness down a notch.

What’s Good
I have been using this every day and night as part of my regimen and while it does instantly sooth, de-puff, and make my eyes feel relaxed — all thanks to its metal rolling ball applicator — I haven’t seen much improvement with my dark circles. Fine lines are looking less obvious, however, perhaps due to caffeine being one of its ingredients.
The serum itself and SO light. So much so that you can apply it over your makeup. Also, I work in an office where the air tends to be on the dry side and using this helps brighten my eyes so I look more awake.
FYI, this is only a serum, so you will still need your eye cream on top to properly moisturize your under eye area. Also, leave it in the f idge for a bit to make the metal roller ball even cooler.

What They Say
“A long-wearing mascara that creates lashes with extreme length and definition.” –Sephora.com

What’s Good
One of my all time faves!. One side of the brush creates definition while the other separates to make your lashes look naturally va-va-voom! I really hate mascara that don’t wash off easily, leaving residue on my face after washing it, and this one comes off fast which is something to consider if you prefer waterproof mascara.
What I love most about this mascara is that it lasts SO long — I have worn this to work and my lashes remained curled and flake free after 8 hours. LOVE!
