Hope all of you are enjoying your weekends so far! Me, well I’m working Saturday AND Sunday. Boo :( .  But I’m used to it — wait, is that even normal?

Anyway, I wanted to recap my last Saturday for those who care to read ;) .  Like I had already mentioned, last Saturday I went to the gym with a good friend of mine and what does one do after a good workout? Well, a good meal, of course!  We decided on Korean food and both ordered Dolsot Bibimbap which is just très scrumptious!

Bibimbap is really just a mixture of rice and veggies (carrots, mushrooms, the occasional seaweed, and bean sprouts) with a bit of beef topped with a sunny side egg and a huge dollop of hot sauce. The stone pot (Dolsot) is so hot that your rice continues to cook in a bit of oil as you eat it. Crispy rice! Yummm. What I also love about Korean restaurants is that you will always get banchan, side dishes, which usually include kimchi (fermented cabbage in chili paste), some more bean sprouts, hot pickled cucumbers, and more seaweed! Man, now I’m hungry :S.

Après dinner, we headed off to my house and then the mall. She had been looking for a good mascara, and I am so obsessed with mascara that I convinced her to buy my favourite mascara of all time: Clinique’s High Definition Mascara. (Click here for my Fab Five Mascaras). And yes, she also loves it! Right, V?

That Saturday made us realize how forgetful we both are. Health cards were forgotten. So were car keys and phones. But I don’t really care to provide you with a full narrative. You’ll be bored to tears, trust me.

So, I recently went through my little “library” (an really tiny closet — if you could even call it that) and found Water for Elephants underneath piles of other unread books. I bought it last year right before school started and never really got around to finishing it since I just got way too busy. Anyway, there is currently a movie in production for this book starring Robert Pattinson and Reese Witherspoon.

I don’t know about others, but I get annoyed when a book being made into a movie at the time I’m reading it — totally shatters my image of its characters. So instead of imagining the character talking, laughing, crying, etc., I end up thinking of Robert Pattinson or Reese Witherspoon, in this case, talking, laughing, crying, etc.. Don’t know. Somehow it doesn’t feel authentic anymore? Like my imagined world has been invaded? Okay, am I crazy for thinking that?

Oh, and while we’re on the topic of reading.. Since finishing University, I have realized that I am now free to read whatever book I want without having to take into account due dates for term papers, final papers, short papers; exams; quizzes; mini-quizzes; readings; reading analyses; oh my, my head is already pounding just thinking back to just a few months ago. I know I talk a lot of smack about school, but I think I’ll miss it. I’ll miss going to class and falling asleep learning, going to library to catch up on sleep readings, printing essays that I pulled an all nighter on (gives me a huge sense of relief, let me tell you!) — you know, the stuff academia is made out of. What I won’t miss are the tears (of pure and undiluted fear and frustration), anxiety attacks (the result of not keeping track of what is due for which class), having to go to school for one class on a really snowy day, and people who talk too loud during lectures (seriously, how rude!).

I completely rambled. But it appears that’s what I do best.. Hope your weekend turns out to be splendid!

The Last Song

I always do this. I don’t read much during the summer, but once school starts, I always find myself neglecting my course readers and reading book after book on subject matters completely unrelated. Guess screwing myself over academically is my way of rebelling? But who am I rebelling against, exactly? I.Am.So.Weird. Speaking of readers, why is it that one of my course readers cost a whopping $105?!? Yup. For a course reader. My heart dropped when the totally unfriendly lady rang the sale through. I kind of was waiting for: “I know it hurts now, dear, but it’s okay. Everything will be okay. ” Damn you, Print City. Damn you!

Anyway, I bought this at Costco yesterday with my mom. Wooohooo for books at almost 50% off! The selection, however, is limited to current popular titles. And Oprah’s Book Club books. This book is about love and redemption — and believe you me, Mr. Sparks is no stranger to both. He was, after all, the man behind A Walk to Remember, The Notebook, and Nights in Rodanthe. I own both A Walk to Remember and The Notebook, but have yet to see Nights in Rodanthe. Both are huge tearjerkers, with the latter title taking the cake as possibly the biggest tearjerker movie I have ever seen. Which just begs the question: Can you believe they were written by a guy?! I always thought that to be a little odd. If you’re into those things, you just might like this one.

So it’s Sunday, the weekend is almost over and I have yet to do anything productive. After this post I am forcing myself to turn off this PC and clean up the disaster zone that is currently my room. Scrubbing my bathroom tiles, what a perfect way to spend a sunny Sunday afternoon.

And Renee, thanks so much for the little shout out on your blog!! Much appreciated!
