Beauty Trend

Old man winter has been especially harsh this year. Temperatures in Toronto have dropped to -22 degrees Celcius on some days and it has been snowing every other day, it seems. I do love winter, but there are days when I find myself daydreaming of the warmer weather to come. Which is why am totally loving the comeback of the bright lip trend for the upcoming season.

Bright, bright, and, yes, bright! Runways were abound with models sporting eye catching hues that spoke to the little girl in us. There is just something about bright lipstick that makes me think back to the days when my most prized possession was my Crayola box (my favourites were always red, peach, pink, and orange). I’m sure many of you can relate ;-) .

Whether you’re into Honeysuckle or Coral Rose — both on Pantone’s top colour hit list for Spring 2011 — or shockingly bright fuschia, there are tons of options at whatever price-point. Just make sure that your lips are properly hydrated and smooth. I am not a fan of lipstick atop flakey lips on myself (or anyone else, for that matter).

These bright shades are really giving me a head rush and making me feel all giddy for the promise of Spring: brighter days, late sunsets, and the soft sounds of bright green leaves rustling — simply incandescent, no?

Do you have any favourites? And what do you look forward most to in Spring?

Ladies, it seems like bright lips are here to stay (for now). Be it bright red, orange, or fuchsia, bright lips are the ultimate in statement makeup. Besides, what better way to celebrate spring than with bright lips?

For red, I LOVE MAC’s Russian Red — it is, however, extremely matte, so well moisturized lips are a must! If you prefer orange, MAC’s Morange is a gorgeous, bright, in your face orange which is great for many skin tones. Nars’ Funny Face or Yves St. Laurent’s 019 Fuchsia Pink are both great.

When wearing bright lipstick, try to keep the rest of your makeup minimal so that your features are not overwhelmed. Also, use a lip pencil closest to the shade of your lipstick for a perfect outline — hey, we’re not attempting to look like this!
