Yes. A 3.4 bottle can cost about US $115+.
The Good
- Stays on you for a long time. I wore this at the start of an 8 hour work day and though the scent became much more subtle, it didn’t wear off.
- As it is Eau de Parfum, you only need, at most, a spray or two. (Anymore is just overkill.)
- Very feminine and elegant, but not too floral. Actually, I find that it has a touch of musk which I love for colder weather.
- The bottle itself is just beautiful. All other fragrances by Chanel are encased in rigid, rectangular bottles, but the soft and round shape of Chance’s bottle gives it a very fresh and youthful appeal.
The Bad
- The price. Ugh. It’s almost obscene, but then again it is Chanel.
- I don’t know about anyone else, but when I first got this I was a bit overzealous in spraying which gave me the biggest headache in the world because it does go on quite strong at first. Actually, this one is more my fault. Scratch this one then.
- Those who are used to the headier scents of other Chanel fragrances may find this a little… bland? I actually like that it’s not so overpowering, but, still, this is something to consider in regards to your taste or preference.
- THE PRICE!
The Bottom Line
I’d say that this is a great introduction to the range of classic fragrances Chanel has to offer. It’s very feminine without being too floral — I’m not averse to floral notes, but sometimes I don’t want to walk around smelling like a bouquet of flowers — and nor is the scent too overpowering. Some may not like it because they are used to the headier scents of, say, Coco Mademoiselle or even the classic No. 5. My biggest gripe with this is (surprise, surprise!) the steep price, but I guess you get what you pay for and in this case, it’s a classy fragrance that has staying power.
Have you tried this product before? How did you like it?

Wow.. the price made me gasp
) and I smelled of that perfume for several hours… It almost made me feel drunk or like I was high on drugs or something
haha
I dont know what to say about this cause I have not tried it… I remember that I went to one of my fav stores with Freddi (my fiancĂ©) before Christmas to find a perfume for his mum… he spritzed some perfume right into the air (well so he though… I was in the way though
btw
I have a small question for you… would you like to do a swap with me??
Hahaha! Imagine getting pulled over by the cops for being “drunk” on perfume?!
It is a little stronger than a lot of perfumes out there, but not as much as No. 5 or Coco…
And sure, what did you have in mind? I don’t really own a lot of makeup because I don’t wear that much on a daily basis so I’m afraid I don’t have a lot to offer.
Well you see… I dont really need anything… I was going to buy some Lumene products and thought that you might want to try them out
Its a brand from Finland and they have AMAZING stuff
So I dont really need anything… I basically just want you to be able to try them out
Anna, you are so thoughtful
.
Have never tried Lumene myself, but sounds like a great brand judging by how much you rave about it.
And I just cannot take that from you. Have to give something back in return. Give me a couple of weeks to find something, k?
You’re the second person who mentioned that Chanel Chance was giving them a headache – I guess I’ll test it out first, if I feel like buying it
It is expensive – but I think it’s a great way to reward yourself or something – especially if it’s pre-vacation at duty free *evil grin*
Hi Fieran,
Yes, it did give me a huge headache at first, so no I just spray it sparingly. I’m not even going to go near the other scents (e.g. No. 5, Coco, etc…) because they’re stronger (at least they are in my opinion).
Chance has two other versions: eau de Fraiche and Eau de Tendre both of which seem to be much lighter than Chance, if you’re interested.
And YES to rewarding yourself at Duty Free. All. The. Time! Love that perfumes there are less expensive and no taxes
I actually really like Chanel Chance Eau Tendre, because it’s slightly lighter and more citrusy. But when Chance came out, it was the only Chanel fragrance that didn’t suffocate me.
Btw, I get a 30% discount at all Shoppers and Murale… So if you need anything that’s super expensive (e.g. Chanel perfume), I can always grab it for you (a $115 price tag means $80 for me!).
Hi Denise,
I haven’t smelled Tendre yet, but I’m really into citrusy fragrances esp. during summer. And same here.. I’ve always loved the idea of owning No. 5 because of its status as the classic fragrance, but it just ain’t happening. Yet. Give me another 40 years and then we’ll see. hahaha
And thank you so very much!!!
. You’re so kind to offer. I’ll def. keep that in mind for future splurges
.
You never know – perhaps as you get older your sense of smell might become more dull (now there’s an upside to aging!) and you might start to like Chanel No. 5
Haha!
Thanks, Fieran. You seem to be an optimist: always looking at the positive side of things even if it’s aging.
Have you smelled No. 5 Eau Premiere? It has similar notes to the original No. 5 but they tweaked it so I find it smells lighter and fresher… Sort of a No. 5 for the new generation!
Seriously!?? I hope it has jasmine because if it does, then holy hell, I gotta test drive that.
K gotta go to their website to do some serious research hahaha.
Thanks for the heads up!!
I love this perfume. I wore it on my wedding day! It’s a classic. I can’t wear it every day but I’ll always love it.
Ali
Hi Ali!
How are you?! I read your flight fiasco and all I can say is: Oh, my!
And you’re so right about this fragrance being not suitable for everyday use — it’s just too formal.
Hope things are well
