Naked

in Makeup, Product Review

I finally got my hands on Urban Decay’s coveted Naked Palette. This palette has been on my wish list for a while now, but just couldn’t bring myself to buy it due to its insanely inflated retail price here in Canada. Cheapness aside, it’s pretty effin’ amazing! With the exception of one shade (Naked, I’m looking at you!), the pigmentation of the shades included is phenomenal. As in hands down, feet up in the air, phenomenal.

I would have swatched and done a break down of each shade, but Denise did all of that for me (muahahahahah). Check her site out for swatch-y goodness!

Seriously, for those who are new to the wonderful world of makeup, I would suggest to pick one of these puppies up. You can easily transition from daytime to nighttime makeup looks with only this palette, some mascara and, perhaps, a little eyeliner. Furthermore, the shades are ultra flattering. It’s hard to mess up any look. At $48USD, I’d say that it’s more than worth it. You will get a LOT of use out of this since all shades are neutral.

I just got this palette as well three weeks before the launch of Naked 2. I love it! It’s not available in Japan and I had to get it from an online store. I haven’t seen the Naked 2 in person but somehow I think I would prefer the velour casing to the tin one though everyone has been saying the tin packaging is way better and sturdier…

Isn’t it NICE???!
Yeah, I like the feel of the velour case, too; I’m not a huge fan of tin cases to be perfectly honest. It tends to get all dented and scratched in my purse.
I haven’t seen Naked 2 in person, either, but, judging from the photos online, I think it’s safe to say that I like the original better just because the Naked 2 looks like it would suit those with a cooler complexion more.

Have fun!

It’s hard not to be seduced by this palette, I tells ya!

I thought I might have been the only one who had a hard time with the Naked shade, because most beauty bloggers (e.g. Temptalia) said it was soft and smooth and had no application issues at all! I was so sad while swatching with both my finger and a MAC #239 brush, like, “WHY, OH, WHY ARE YOU NOT OPAQUE YET?”

Apparently, most of the complaints about the Naked 2 Palette are that the shades are too similar to Naked 1, and that most of the shades are warm (like Naked 1). And also that there should’ve been more matte shades. The final conclusion was that it wasn’t worth getting both palettes, but they are both worth looking at.

Yeah, I did run into the same problem with Naked. It doesn’t look like anything on my skin… Maybe it’s just my complexion? I’m not sure.

And I do think Naked 2 is way similar to Naked1… I guess they both lean warm? I’m happy with this. Besides, Naked 2 is already SOLD OUT! Bloody ‘ell.

Naked is definitely a nice palette – but I don’t use all the shades. I’m usually stuck on Gunmetal, Creep and Smog… those are my favourite. Oh and Darkhorse too. (Do you see a pattern? :) )

That said, I don’t like Urban Decay’s marketing strategy. I honestly think they will sell more if they just released more stock and didn’t play the whole “This is a hyped product, you have to buy it!” game. Just release it like any other item and people will buy it if they think it’s good. Making people fight over the last few left in stock and then asking them to wait to be notified when they get more..that’s just milking our passion for makeup for all it is worth.

I’m not going to go chasing after Naked2, though. Not sure if I need it either.

Ummmm what pattern?? :-P What’s not to love, though? They’re the richest colours of the palette.

And I never really gave their marketing strategy any thought, but now that you mention it… They do indeed make their customers feel ‘frenzied’ — almost rabid? It does create a buzz, though.

I’m perfectly happy with my palette. They’re too similar to each other to warrant me buying the second one.

The love-of-dark-moody-shades-pattern :)

Yes, that’s the frenzy that can be fun, but after collecting so much makeup, I’m a bit tired of their marketing strategy, you know? Would be nice to not have to worry about the stock, etc.. I think I’d be a more discerning shopper that way.

Yes, I don’t think I’m getting Naked2 either. I’d rather buy more rare colours or some YSL lippies *cough*

Yeah, I hear you. It does push people to buy-buy-buy!

I’m gonna leave Naked2 for others to fight over lol… YSL lippies on the other hand…. Man, I am so in love!
