Product Review: Mario Badescu’s A.H.A. Botanical Body Soap

I had been skin problem-free all my life until I hit my teens and was hit with KP. It was so bad the first few years I had it — scratchy and inflamed arms with those stupid bumps. I was so uncomfortable and embarrassed of my arms that I mostly refused to wear tank tops or really short sleeved shirts. I tried several lotions and creams (prescription and non) to get rid of it, all to no avail.

Unfortunately there is no treatment for KP other than time. ANNOYING!

One day at work, I was browsing the sales on Hautelook.com, per usual, and saw Mario Badescu in their Beauty section. I’ve read a couple of glowing reviews on their drying lotion and was really contemplating getting one until this body wash caught my eye. I’ve never come across a body wash with Alpha Hydroxy Acids and it definitely helped that I only had to pay US$10 for a 16oz. bottle.

Who
Mario Badescu

What
A.H.A. Botanical Body Soap

Why
For those with KP, ingrown hair, or just some plain ‘ol exfoliation.

How
Lather and rinse. Easy Peasy!

Bank Breaker?
I got mine from Hautelook for $10. So, no.

The Good

  • This has a very subtle scent.
  • Doesn’t feel ‘hard’ on the skin.
  • Really does exfoliate pretty good.
  • Not very expensive (even at regular price).

The Bad

  • Contains Sulfates.
  • Might be too harsh for those with really sensitive skin.

The Bottom Line
Really great product. I would buy again and again. My bf, freshly sunburned from Punta Cana, used this not knowing it was an exfoliating body wash and his sunburn started to peel — and I mean PEEL off his body right after the shower. I was amazed!
And this has definitely helped to tone down my KP. Happy gal here!!

Have you tried this product before? How did you like it?

OMG, I have KP, too! I’ve had it since I was a kid and it’s gotten better over the years, but it’s still very visible. I’m really considering trying this so I can actually wear short sleeves shirts… Do you know where Mario Badescu products are available in-store? Maybe Holt’s?

Really?? I hate it.

I don’t think it’s available at Holt’s, but I do remember Sydney mentioning a store downtown that carries some of their products.
If you want I can put some in a trial sized bottle so you can test it out for yourself.

Hmm, I don’t know if I have KP or not, but I have weeks where I get some bumps on my upper arms and then I exfoliate and moisturize and it’s back to normal. My favourite exfoliator is actually the bubbling scrub from Haus of Gloi. It works wonderfully.

Have you heard of Dermadoctor’s KP Duty? It’s advertised a lot..

I don’t think you do. KP’s more of a 24/7, 365 kinda thing. And I have seen Dermodoctor at Sephora, but never really gave it much thought…. I’ll def look into it. Thanks for the suggestion!!
