Hi Ladies! Hope everyone is doing well. Sad news: Patrick Swayze recently succumbed to pancreatic cancer. That guy fought ’til the end. RIP.
I shall watch Dirty Dancing and Ghost in his honor. Which one did you like more? Personally, I love Ghost. Especially the scene at the end where “he” and Molly were saying their goodbyes. *Tear* *Sniffle* *Sob* Such a great movie. Speaking of which, am I alone in loving that hair on Demi? That woman can pull off anything!
Anyway, onto the real purpose of this post! Don’t you just love looking like you were born with full lashes? If only I were so lucky. Seriously, I find that most guys (including my bf) have really nice lashes. No fair. It’s not like they need to wear mascara, anyway. lol. So, that was the purpose of my buying L’Oreal’s Extra Volume Collagen Mascara: to fake extra full lashes. Who said collagen was just for filling in wrinkles?
L'Oreal Extra Volume Collagen mascara swatch.
What they say:
L’Oreal’s biggest volume builder! Introducing the latest innovation in mascara technology — Extra-Volume Collagen Mascara. It’s made with hydra-collagen and enhances the thickness of your lashes for up to 12x more impact without any clumps. Our patented brush is 50% bigger so it builds that incredible volume fat. Your lashes will build extra body and extra impact in just one sweep.

What do I think? Well, it gave my lashes volume, alright. However, I found that it clumped immediately. It definitely didn’t deposit the product as smoothly and clean as Dior’s Blackout Diorshow, which is the comparable, naturally. I did like that the consistency isn’t dry at all, unlike some mascara. But is it worth the $12+ price tag? I say you much better results from recent cult faves like Maybelline’s Colossal Volum’ Express mascara or Cover Girl’s Lash Blast. Both instantly amp up your lashes and are slightly cheaper than Collagen mascara.
Do you like it?

Loving the personal photos, Mary! Been trying to do that at BF too, but gosh it’s hard eh?! I’m no photographer!
I’ve heard so much about this mascara but damn the price here is kinda a lot for a drugstore brand, a few dollars more and I could buy my beloved Lancome
I will have to try it soon though!
P.s. You have amazing lashes.
Honestly, I think you’re better off sticking with your beloved in this case. Not all that it’s hyped up to be — and it clumps right away! Have had a better exprerience with their Voluminous which is a bit cheaper than this.
And thanks :>… I used to condition my lashes frequently (like a few months ago). I’ve been pretty lazy lately :S.
I love Ghost! It’s SUCH a good movie! I think I need to run out and buy it soon.
Anyway… my fave drugstore mascara is Maybelline Colossal because it’s a knock-off of my absolute favourite mascara, Diorshow. But hello, I can’t afford $32 on a tube of mascara — that stuff only lasts 3 months! Whatever mascara I use, I always apply Shiseido’s Mascara Base first. That stuff is amazing!
Aaaan I’m too lazy to go back and reply to your other post but you have really pretty eyes and I LOVE your eyebrows! My thin, pale, barely-there eyebrows are mega-jealous.
Hi Sydney!
It’s really one of the best, isn’t it? Prospect Place Willy and Rita Miller (the bank scene is one of my faves)…lol
I also love Colossal Volum’.. it’s sooo much cheaper, but delivers results far superior to Collagen mascara (waste of money, I tells ya). And, yeah, I did buy Diorshow a while ago and really, really loved it, but I just can’t justify spending nearly 40 bucks on a tube of mascara. Well, that and the fact that I’m broke as a joke (school just started for me last week so goodbye money!).. Seriously, this makeup thing is quite expensive. I feel like I’m supporting a crack/cocaine habit. Have yet to try Shiseido’s mascara base, but I’ve heard wonderful stuff about it.
Is it too “fiber-y”? Don’t know if that makes much sense :S…
And haha about my eyebrows. Notice that I used only my right eye? Well, that’s because the eyebrow on my right eye is my fave. The left one is like the demented, evil twin nobody likes. I used to suffer from really thin eyebrows, but nothing helps more than laying off the tweezer which is just so damn hard. Thank you!!
Oh man, I WISH I could stop tweezing but honestly, you start seeing those little hairs and it’s almost impossible NOT to pluck at them!
I know there’s a saying that your eyebrows are supposed to be sisters, not twins. Well, mine are, like, semi-retarded second cousins LOL.
Yes! I love the bank scene when Patrick Swayze is talking her through trying to withdraw the $3 million and then she’s about to have a heart attack when she hands the money over to the nuns. Hahaha… Whoopi is such a badass!
Also: “Molly, you in danger girl.” Hahaha… LOVE THAT MOVIE!
Whoops, got so carried away talking about my ugly eyebrows and Ghost that I didn’t answer your question!
Shiseido’s Mascara Base isn’t fibre-y at all! If anything, it’s a little “clumpy” but it goes on invisible so it almost doesn’t even matter. It just creates that perfect base for the mascara to latch on to. Honestly, it’s one of my makeup staples. That and Benefit’s Shelaq to make my eyebrow makeup stay — otherwise, my oily-ass face eats my eyebrows by the time I get to work. Nothing is worse than an eyebrow-less face. That’s the look of villains in movies.
haha you’re hilarious! Your remark about your face eating your eyebrows somehow reminded me of the usual question my bf would ask me when I tell him I need to get ready: “Oh, you need to put your face on now, right?” hahahah it’s so funny I can’t get mad or insulted though I really should be.
And now I’m really curious about that mascara base! I personally love Shiseido. Love their Perfect Rouge Lipstick and Benefiance under eye cream.
Yay for Ghost!
I’m a fan of Lancome’s mascaras, since I’ve discovered them years ago they are the only ones I use. 5 years ago I used to try L’Oreal and after I changed to Max Factor (were good but lasted ony 1 month)
Hi Tavia,
I have been hearing TONS of good things about Lancome mascaras. Have yet to hop on the bandwagon, but I’m sooooo tempted to discover for myself now. And L’Oreal makes very good drugstore mascara — that’s it.. I have tried Voluminous, and that was quite good. This one in particular, however, is just not worth it. And I wish we got Max Factor here in Canada because I’d love to try their 2000 calorie mascara, or something like that.
Which of Lancome’s mascara do you use yourself?
