Wet HairI don’t know about where you live, but water is “hard” where I do.  Every now and then, I won’t wash my hair because of how much buildup I get. Gross? Not so (THANK U DRY SHAMPOO I OWE YOU!!)… :P .

How is water hard?

Because it’s hard to work with?! Well, simply put, hard water is rain water that has fallen to the ground and seeped through the many layers of soil and certain types of rocks that add to its mineral content. Rain water that falls on hard rock remains soft water as it does not take on any mineral from the rock.

What does it do to my hair?

When we shampoo our hair with hard water, our hair follicles, which are made up of teeny tiny little microscopic scales are pushed up (think of a — giving our hair that coveted (joking!) rough texture.

So, given all that, what can you do to help your hair? Well, the cheapest alternative would be to… ummm.. shower in the rain? And if that isn’t feasible (or even anywhere remotely near possible), you can buy cheap shower filters at your local hardware store.

If you do want to test this out first, place a carafe or something similar and a couple of coffee filters on top (to filter out any impurities) then use the rain water collected in the carafe to wash your hair.

The result? Softer hair that is easier to manage. Another plus with installing water filter for your water? Your skin will also benefit!

I can’t wait to try this one out! Fire me up an email or comment if you have any other ideas or tips!
