Botox.
At the age of 18.
Yep.
Singing phenom Charice (who also hails from the Philippines) underwent a botox treatment plus another anti-aging procedure to look “fresh” for an upcoming guest spot in Glee. For those of us who have followed her career as it took flight from youtube videos to guest spots in Oprah and the release of a self titled album under the tutelage of hit maker David Foster, “old” is not something that springs to mind where Charice is concerned. Not in the least.
What does come to mind is her rags to riches story and that voice — oooh, that voice is simply divine; I’d love to have that voice. I myself like to sing and truly wish I could decently sing a song, but at the end of the day I’d just be fooling myself because am a bit tone deaf . And, frankly, I’d rather suck at singing and know it instead of not and sing to others thinking I’m all that and a bag of ketchup chips (YUM!). So, no, I won’t be making an appearance on Canadian Idol shown as one of the “funny” singers anytime soon. Okay, went off tangent, but let’s get back to Charice.
Seriously?! This is what it takes to look “fresh” for the cameras?
When someone says “Look fresh!” to me, my first reaction is to take a shower or wash my face — not botox! And she’s just 18!! What, does she want to take back some years and look a fresh faced EIGHT year old?!!
I wish someone in her camp would just shake some sense into her noggin already. She’s so young and the pressures and stress inherent in the entertainment business could be pretty damaging to her self image, I think.
Read The Sydney Morning Herald‘s article on the procedures.

i honestly think she doesn’t need it too. she’s 19 what wrinkles can she possibly have? she should rehearse her singing and acting instead of worrying about her face. i mean honestly, she’s lucky enough to be in glee she should focus on the reason why she got picked-her voice!
You couldn’t have said it better. Her voice is why she is where she is right now and nothing else. Yeah, I don’t think she looks like the typical dime a dozen cookie-cutter pop singer, but no one can deny that’s she’s super talented. Was really hoping it would be all about substance and talent with her..
And, honestly, my jaw dropped when I read the headlines about her procedures.. And I don’t know who it is that’s bringing up all these absurd ideas to her because she ends up looking worse to the public.
The poor girl! I wish she has some good, down to earth people in her life who will be able to tell her that the world she’s trying to enter, or is already a part of, is C R A Z Y.
She’s a young Philipino girl, she should be looking to the Virgin Mary, not an eight year old version of a barely-18 fantasy.
She’s a beautiful young girl, come on! Why are we so afraid of looking like REAL people? With creases by our eyes and pores?
Poor young girls. I feel so lucky to be old enough not to get too hurt by all this pressure to be flawless
Hey Pinch!
You are so right; I also think it’s super important someone who can positively influence and help her become grounded in the reality of the business she’s in. And she IS too young to even consider something like that; though it may be non-intrusive she’s got this idea in her head that she needs to be a better version of herself in order to feel validated by others.
Grr!
