How To Get Dewey Skin for the Summer

So, it seems that everyone`s after the dewey, glowing skin for the summer. Well, w hat`s not to love about this understated, fresh, polished, and youthful look for those hot summer days?? Effortless looking, but still looks well put together. Love it!

As it can get quite humid here in Toronto during the summer, it is ideal to use as little makeup as possible to avoid “caking up.” So, this means try to steer away from liquid foundations with heavy coverage and go for mineral makeup instead as it is able to withstand the heat much more. Also, you don’t want to cover up your entire face with the stuff. So, as much as possible, just spot correct problem areas. If you don’t have mineral makeup, that’s fine. Just use your tinted moisturizer instead.

Tinted moisturizers are so lightweight and sheer that they don’t have the same cake-y effect on the skin. It is meant to even out the skin only, not to correct or mask imperfections.

Dewey skin is really quite easy. All you need is an illuminator, some blush, and your trusty blush brush. Sometimes you don’t even need a brush to apply your illuminator — as is the case with Benefit’s High Beam (mentioned in my original Dewey Skin post.)
So, let’s proceed to the good stuff, shall we?

Tools:

  • Blush Brush (I used MAC 129 Blush/Powder Brush)
  • MAC Mineralize Skinfinish in “Refined”
  • A little bit of Benefit’s High Beam

Directions:

  • Prep your face with your choice of tinted moisturizer (I use Clinique’s Moisture Sheer Tint in Neutral;) apply brow powder to frame your face; line the upper lash line with dark brown eyeliner; and apply mascara.

Now onto the highlighting…

Here I used MAC’s Sheertone Blush in “Peaches.” This is a pretty, peachy matte blush that looks ultra natural on my skintone. I’d advise against using shimmery blushes which can be a little too much in addition to the illuminator. You don’t want to look like a disco ball, do you?

The small C starts at your temple and curves in, stopping at the tops of your cheeks. This is one of my favourite parts to illuminate as it just brings such a healthy glow to your skin.

Tip: If your brush is too full, avoid laying it down on your face. Instead, hold it up with only the tips touching the surface of your skin, like I have in this photo, to get just the right amount of product on just the right surface area of your skin.

Again, using only the tips of the brush, add the illuminator on the bridge of your nose. This helps give your face a “lifted” look and the result is just so pretty!!

You must be wondering why you’d want to add shine to your nose when you work so hard at blotting away excess oil to keep it from shining… Illuminators give your skin such an iridescent glow — a far cry from oily shine!

For my brow bones, I used Hight Beam just to mix it up a little :D . You definitely can use Refined for this.
And we’re all done! It’s SUCH a simple look to accomplish. However, you must apply with light hands or you’ll risk putting too much on your face — I can’t stress that enough!

EDIT: Here’s a facial map with the areas you want highlighted marked.
