Many hip fashion bloggers like Rumi Neely of fashiontoast.com have it. Celebrities like Sarah Jessica Parker and Keira Knightley (love her!) have also been caught with this look.  What is it, you ask? Well, it’s ombré hair of course.  What was once a beauty faux pas is now being celebrated and sported by many women.

Actually referred to in the hair industry as a fade, where the dark colour starts at the roots, the strands gradually fading into a much lighter colour at the tips. Who knew growing your roots would be considered trés chic?

As the look calls for much lighter tips, this may not be suitable for your hair if you’ve got dry and brittle hair or damaged ends.  So, I would highly suggest paying your stylist a visit to get their opinion.  If you do go for it, keep the health of your hair by conditioning it frequently and using hair products with UV protection. And never forget to spray heat protection, focusing more on your tips, when using heat to style your hair.

  1. Love it! i was considering it a while ago but then my ends are so damaged I’d just be asking for it to fall off! :-P

And ahhh, and I love Keira and Alexa! They look great with this hair trend! :D

  2. I’m kind of in between… Do you colour your hair a lot?? And I so, completely, absolutely feel your pain about the ends. Mine are splitting and I still refuse to cut it short.

On the fence with Alexa, but I adore Keira. Pride and Prejudice is one of the most romantic movies out there. eeee!

  3. Nope, don’t color my hair. But I do this “messy bun” almost everyday which means a ton of backcombing, so they are really damaged from that. Then earlier this year I went to get a perm that didn’t even curl in the end so I just have hair full of chemicals, gross! I need a trim but I want to grow my hair long so this straw hair stays :-P Do you color your hair?

Oh I’ll have to go see that! I’m suddenly into romantic movies now. :-P

  4. You know, I had to google backcombing (:S)… I usually refer to it as teasing the hair (which I think sounds weird anyway) haha.

And I’m guessing you want more volume at your crown, right? Have you tried to blow dry your hair over your face? I find that drying my hair the opposite way of how I usually wear it creates a lot of volume, especially at the crown. I’d just spray a little bit of hairspray to add some support to it.
I used to colour my hair back in HS, then I took a break from it for 5 years until one of my bf’s clients offered me a free style and colour at his salon. Just find it so time consuming and expensive to keep up. I’m just letting it grow out now, but it looks sooo stupid.

AND PLEASE WATCH PRIDE AND PREJUDICE BECAUSE IT’S ONE OF THE BEST MOVIES IN THE ENTIRE WORLD, I PROMISE!!!!!!!!! Love the nuances in their actions. I read that you liked The Notebook.. EEE! I’ll let you in on a little secret, I’m a sucker for rom-com movies — well, romantic movies in general. They’re my bread and butter… Comedy comes in a close second.

  5. Yeah, tried blowdrying once or twice but it just falls flat. Seriously, I’ve tried everything for some damn volume and the only thing that worked is teasing (or backcombing, haha). Also I’m too lazy to blowdry my hair :P Backcombing takes 2 seconds and really lasts well for me. Unfortunately I get like 5 inch long split ends. Yikes.

OK I WILL!, Haha! I only got into romantic movies, I think it’s ‘cos of my new desire to fall in love, :-P A Walk to remember was also good! Oh yeah and rom-coms are my guilty pleasure. :D

  6. I hate split ends, but I love cutting them off each and ever strand.

And A Walk to Remember, that was the craze back in High school (Nicholas Sparks knows how to write romance, huh?) I loved their chemistry in that movie. And wouldn’t you know it, I have all the DVD’s of the titles we’ve talked about so far. :S haha
And I love your reason for getting into romantic movies. They do make you want to fall in love. Sigh.
