Buca

My bf and I went to Buca for for his birthday dinner on Friday, per Sydney’s recommendation. I had asked her if she had knew of any good Italian restaurants in the downtown core and of the restaurants she did recommend, Buca was a clear standout. I mean, if it’s good enough for Jamie Oliver, then what the hell, it’s good enough for me!

Anyway, I tried to look for a menu online so I could have an idea of what their offerings are, but could find none. Our server explained that it’s because 40%-50% of their items change almost every night.

We started with two orders from their Salume (duck and prosciutto) and one order from their Formaggi (buffalo mozzarella). The prosciutto and duck were sliced paper thin and had a generous amount of fat. Oh, god, it was so good. The lack of a photo, should be evidence enough!

We also ordered Nodini, dough knots (swimming) in Olive oil, Garlic, Rosemary, Garlic, Sea Salt, Garlic, and Garlic. It was garlic-y, perfectly crust-y and its inside was dough-y!

For the main course, my bf ordered the Tortelli. It had succulent veal in it and some truffle shavings. It was perfectly nutty and cheesy and very, very succulent. It was the best pasta dish he’d ever had. EVER! His only complaint? There wasn’t more.
I got their Bigali: dug egg pasta in duck meat ragu and mascarpone cheese. The pasta was perfectly al dente and the sauce was thick and creamy.

We will be back!!

OMG it was REALLY good. I loved my entree, but I gotta say that the Tortelli was better. SO MUCH better!

OH GOD I AM SO HUNGRY RIGHT NOW. It is so bad to look at food porn when you’re hungry. I am obviously going to be heading to the kitchen to OVER-EAT now. :(

But, seriously, food looks ridic. We need to meet up more often so we can try out new restaurants. ARE YOU GAME?
