Beauty Tip: Travel Skin Care

Viva, Las Vegas! In a few hours I will be flying off to Vegas with my bf for some much needed R,R, & R (Rest, Relaxation, and Retail therapy). I cannot wait to just push my school work and work-work aside for five days and shop ’til I drop eat ’til I pass out. It’s been at least 9 years since I was last there and from what I remember, it was just okay. Then again, 8 years ago I was only 17 and was with my family so everything was pretty much G rated; meaning I was only allowed to “walk” through casinos, could not wander off to the pretty shops on my own, and bedtime was around 12 am.

I love the feeling of flying but I am not so fond of the havoc it wreaks on my skin (among other things). Many of us forget that the air inside airplanes is much drier than it is outside of it and fail to compensate for the loss of moisture in our skin. The result? Dry, tight, itchy, and flaky skin — EWW! So, to keep yourself feeling fresh throughout your flight, here are some tips:

  • Don’t forget your moisturizer, stored in a travel container, to keep dry skin at bay. There is a limit as to how much of any liquid, gel, or cream you are allowed to bring into the airport, so to avoid getting your beloved cream confiscated put some into a small travel jar (should not exceed 100 ml, I believe, but check out the TSA website for more information).
  • Bring along a heavy duty lip moisturizer with SPF along. Nothing is more uncomfortable than dry lips.
  • Your eyes will also suffer from the dry air inside the cabin, so eye drops are ideal. They will also help you avoid looking like the walking dead.
  • You don’t need to put on a lot of makeup; chances are, the foundation will make your dry skin more pronounced. Instead, keep your skin clear and focus more on hydration. Also, all you really need are: mascara, blue eyeliner (to emphasize the whites of your eyes), nude eyeliner (to open up tired eyes), and some lip gloss/balm. If more makeup is a must, apply before landing or as soon as you check out. You’ll look and feel much more refreshed.
  • Hours upon hours of your hair rubbing against the head rest will result in nasty static hair so you better bring some leave in conditioner with you.
  • Buy bottles of water or refill your reusable bottle up to keep yourself hydrated throughout the flight.
  • I don’t know if anyone does this, but I actually bring my eye cream long with me to keep my under eyes from getting dry. I also have packed some night cream for long international flights to keep my skin moisturized longer as well as travel sized skin cleanser to wash off all the gunk and pollution from my skin.
  • I also bring travel sized toothbrush, toothpaste, and mouthwash.
  • Get plenty of rest. This is also a good tip if you don’t want to look like the walking dead upon arrival :D .

As far as fashion tips go, here are two tips: black clothes and comfort. Black tops (paired with a dark grey, blue, or black scarf for when you get cold) are always effortlessly chic and are excellent for camouflaging stains and look great paired with jeans in any wash (I prefer mine in dark wash). Finally, I prefer to wear canvas shoes for comfort. I have seen some very nicely (if not overly) dressed girls at the airport. Sure they look great at the first few hours, but can you really stand to wear 5 inch heels and a short skirt during a long flight?

Okay, I really need to start packing!
So, see you in 5 days :D .

EDIT: So, it seems that my advance publish does not work :( . Anyway, I am back. I am tired, 5 pounds heavier than when I left (oh, Vegas, why must your buffets be so good!!), and my room looks like a disaster zone. BUT I am not complaining because I had a BLAST!
Oh, and note to self: try and stay away from the slots because that $1,000,000,000 jackpot is not just $100 dollars away.

Thank you, Irene!!

I’m actually back because either Wordpress or I am too stupid to get the scheduled post to work. But it was so much fun!!! You have photos of Kuala Lampur on your bloggy and I must say that I am jealous! I have never been there and have heard great things about it.

And yay for the RSS working! How was it not working before, though? I am still such a techie noob :(

Haha YES!

I actually didn’t buy much in terms of beauty products, but I went insane on clothes since I don’t really buy those items often. I did get Lancome’s Definicils for 7 BUCKS (!!!!) and some more Kiehl’s products :D . I did go to the Cosmetics Company Outlet, but I wasn’t really feeling any of the stuff so I left empty handed :( .

Hello Mary! I am glad to hear you are getting some much needed R&R and more R, now it’s my turn! I have a big ass essay due tomorrow morning, and it’s 6pm here and of course I’m reading blogs than doing my work! Ahhh… can’t wait til the madness is done.

Anyway, wanted to comment because I have a flight-beauty post coming up soon and I wanted to say great minds think alike. :-P Also, hope you had fun in Vegas and talk soon!

xx Renee

Hahaha I was about to make a remark about that… We both seem to be so… in synch :D :D .

But great minds DO think alike! Where are you jetting off to?

Oh, and I am the EXACT same way with my essays. I tend to put them off at the very last minute and end up staying up all night struggling to put as much bs as I can to make the page limit.
