I’ll let you in on a little secret: I love ilovemartine! This blog is chock-full of fashion eye candy from $2 vintage dresses to mile high YSL Tributes (talk about versatility!). Martine Cajucom, the lovely lady behind the blog, possesses such a unique and fearless fashion sense many can only dream of having — yes, Ms. Fashion Handicap over here included :S.
I was reading her blog one day and saw a photo of her hair. I was immediately smitten with the idea of wavy hair. I have naturally wavy hair, but it’s quite beastly! Hers was curl/wave done the right way; mine, on the other hand, just kind of turns into a pyramid unless I blow dry it.. sigh. I was about to leave a comment when inspiration struck me — why not do an interview?! So, you can just imagine my surprise when she responded right away agreeing to one!!
1. Okay, so everyone and their moms want to know how you get your hair to look the way it does. Any tips? ( And, yes, you do have quite amazing hair! )
It’s taken me quite some time to get to this stage of hair.. I actually have very naturally straight, shiny black hair, which for some may be the ideal hair, but I desperately craved a change. So before christmas, on a whim, I had a body wave (which really just means a “perm”) done, and I wonder why I wasnt just born with wavy hair nowadays!
2. It’s quite evident to anyone who follows your blog that you carry yourself with a lot of grace and confidence and that’s no easy feat for today’s media driven society where perfection is the ideal. Do you have any advice for those wishing to be more comfortable in their own skin?
The only advice I can really give is that confidence comes from age and experience, I was the most awkward insecure thing in elementary school and for a good portion of my high school career.. but I learned that people will respect and like u more if you know yourself, and I’m happy to say I’m in a stage of my life where I’ve gained a lot of self-realization.
3. I’m a total sucker for cute packaging. The problem with this is that cute packaging does not mean the product contained inside is great. Well, that and I find myself with a littlelot less money and more “junk.” Care to share any over-hyped and overpriced products with your readers?
I know several people will have to disagree with me on this, but overpriced shampoo is such a con! It’s only on your scalp for a good 2-3 minutes, then you wash it off.. why spend $20+ when you can get something for $5 that works equally awesome?
4. You have such amazing skin. How do you take care of it?
I’m a big fan of water. Hold the coffee, soda, smoothies, I always prefer a tall, cold glass of agua. Also, murad products work amazing!
5. What makeup/beauty items can you not live without?
bronzer (dior sunspray in shade 001)
Mascara (cheapy [Maybelline] great lash works great!)
Hoola benefit bronzer
Shu Uemura eyelash curler
Peach/Pink lipsticks (Makeup Forever in shade 403/ Nars in Barbarella)
6. You know, I look at photos of myself in high school when I first started wearing makeup and I just bow my head in shame — just too much of the wrong things going on! Looking back, what part of your past makeup ritual would you change?
Nothing! I learned how to apply makeup sheerly through trial and error.
7. Okay, I’m going to sound TOTALLY cheesy, but I’m going to ask you anyway. To many of your readers you are a beauty inspiration; who are yours?
(aww thank ya!!!)
My inspirations are my mama! She is one creative, awesome lady
I don’t even need to ask you to visit her blog, because chances are you’ve already opened a tab for it
! Seriously, Martine is one super-chic and super-friendly gal. Keep up the amazing work!

Great interview, Mary.
And that girl is gorgeous! I love her waves too! I too wanted to get a “body wave” earlier this year but my hair is in such a bad state, I am sure it will fall out. So I shall wait til it grows out healthy
Hey Renee,
She is gorge, right?!? I think I’ll leave my hair in the sad state it’s in currently because I’m quite afraid I’ll do more damage than good.. oooh and i just read your message! Thanks!! I’m working on it… I just love this beauty talk stuff!!
Hi,
what exactly is a bronzer??
sorry for the dumb question!
Hi Dee! Bronzer is used to fake a tan or to contour the face. Don’t worry about it, we all have to learn at some point, right?
