Another Year, Another Birthday

I’m 26. Oh. My. God.

Really, I don’t feel (or act, for that matter) a day over 20, so this is actually hard to believe for me. I remember back in high school the year I turned 18 was the longest year ever; I just couldn’t wait to finally become of legal age to go to clubs with my own ID and buy my own drinks. You know, the stuff cool adults were able to do. Well, all of that grew old — and fast.

Anyway, truth be told, I don’t really care to celebrate my own birthday. Yeah, if it’s someone else’s day and they want to par-tayh, then I’m all for it. Otherwise, I’d rather do nothing over and above a very simple dinner. My bf knows all about this, so, with the exception of one year where we hit up a club, it’s always just been dinner and a present. Or two.

This year he wanted to do something more for my birthday, so he took me on an impromptu shopping trip across the border. With the Canadian dollar being so strong and ridiculous Canadian taxes (damn you, tariffs, damn you!), it just made so much sense. Besides, I LOVE long drives, so it seemed perfect (except the whole rain-freezing rain- strong winds- rain- rain-freezing rain bit throughout the entire drive to Buffalo).

I got to call the shots, so we ended up in Target where I got some stuff that are not available here in Toronto as well as the Walden Galleria. I didn’t set out to get a bag, but I really liked this MBMJ cross-body bag caught my eye because: a) it’s cross-body, b) it’s mainly nylon which is easy to clean (I drink a lot of coffee which, without fail, spills all along the sides of my bag, and, perhaps most important of all, c) it’s got a lot of compartments (I had a tetra-pak of broccoli soup in my latest “What’s in My Purse” post, do I really need to explain?).

It retails for about $180 which is relatively affordable, but the biggest surprise was when the lady at the register only asked for $120-something. I had no idea about their Friends and Family sale (25% almost everything in the store)! I guess it was meant to be.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY! :D

Cute bag! I need to find a good cross-body bag to hold my copious amounts of make-up… MBMJ is always a good call. :) I was thinking of Coach, but it’s so over-done. I wonder if Michael Kors does a good cross-body bag.

What’d you get from Target?! Also, did you eat at The Cheesecake Factory??? Man, I need to make a trip to Buffalo soon-time.

Aww thanks, Denise!!

And are you sure you don’t need a small suitcase to hold your kajillion items of makeup and brushes?! LOL jk.

You’re so right — MBMJ will never be a fail. It’s quite classy and not as in-your-face as the coach pattern, for example. I’m sick of Coach, so there’s that. And Michael Kors is also great! I was at the one in Yorkdale and they had some really cute cross-body bags, though MK tends to be ‘dressier’.

And I got something from Pixi, Napoleon Perdis, and Jemma Kidd (I think).. Will do a post ;-) .

You so should go to Buffalo. The loonie is pretty strong and everything is so much cheaper there!

Oh, and I didn’t end up eating at The Cheesecake Factory because it was PACKED!! :-( Maybe next time.

Happy Birthday. Glad to hear you had a good one. The bag is beautiful :) I’ve always had a going for crossbody bags as they leave my hands free.

Hi Fieran!

Thanksies!!! And I love the bag. It’s really on the simple side, but it’s great.

I’m the exact same with cross-body bags: it leaves my hands free to lug around the other bags I carry hahaha.

Happy belated birthday….!!

What a steal….and a great idea to drive into the US. Yeah the US dollar has become quite weak so I thought it was so much cheaper to go shopping there compared to Japan.

Yeah, I thought for sure that the greenback would rebound, but it doesn’t show any signs of going up anytime soon. You could always go online shopping, though shipping might be a bit pricey.

And thank you so much! I hope things are going well for you there :-D .

Thanks :-D !

Hahaha I’m sure you can find it online. I’ve seen something very close to this, but with handles on shopbop.com.

I paid $120 US for this. The original price was $180 or something, but Lord and Taylor was having a friends and family sale so 25% was taken off at the register.
