I admit it: my hair is gross. It hasn’t been cut or trimmed for about a year now and I have split end after split end (I have seen ones that go all the way to the root of my hair strand. Gross!).
On a bad day, my hair feels dull and dry and just lifeless. On a good day, my hair is up in a ponytail/bun. I try to deep condition it a few times a month, but I find that even that’s not enough. So what’s a girl with hair problem to do?
Walk into the nearest Sephora and not into a salon to get that much needed trim is what! I initially wanted to get something from Bumble and Bumble, but they had a tester for Alterna’s Kendi Oil Dry Mist by the door. Fell in love with one spray. For serious.
It’s a dry oil spray that doesn’t feel oily at all. Love that it doesn’t weigh down my hair — it’s actually very lightweight! Kendi Oil Dry Oil Mist is meant to both eliminate stubborn hair frizz and protect hair strands from damage incurred from the use of heat styling tools. My hair still gets slightly frizzy, but is a far cry from how bad it usually gets ESPECIALLY during the hot humid days of summer. I love the smell it leaves on my hair and how shiny my hair looks after a few sprays. And my split ends? They’re still there. I should just give in and get a cut :-S.
All products in Alterna’s Bamboo line contain Eco-Certified Organic Bamboo and are free of parabens, gluten (you know, just in case someone who is gluten intolerant decides to drink the stuff), phthalates (what the heck is with the extra ‘H’??), synthetic colour, mineral oil, and petrolatum.
This 125ml spray bottle will set you back approx $25 CAD and should last you a couple of months if used daily. Would I buy again? Yes.

Sounds amazing and the spray form sounds really handy. I like oils for hair too but it’s far too easy to put on too much or not spread it out evenly…
Oh, I can soooo relate. It’s hard to overdo with this spray because it goes on so light on your hair!
Oooh, I may have to look into this product. Sounds quite lovely!
LOL @ “you know, just in case someone who is gluten intolerant decides to drink the stuff” — Actually, there are some people who are allergic to wheat-based ingredients. I know those with Celiac disease usually avoid ANYTHING containing gluten, in case of ingestion or inhalation. (I’ve been asked before whether certain lip products have gluten, for example.)
And… you should still get a haircut.
I only get it done once a year as well… but once it’s done, it’s like RELIEF! My hair is so much lighter and my hair looks and feels better…
And I don’t have to worry about it until next year!
I think it’s new at Sephora (here in Canada, at least). They have a Caviar line that smell so wonderful.
And I know about Celiac disease, but I had been under the impression that it only affects them if they eat food containing gluten??
Also, you’re right on me needing that haircut. I’m just so lazy and right now (as with 99% of the time), I just cannot be bothered. lol
I’ve tried this before! It’s really good including the shampoo and the conditioner from the Bamboo range. It’s a bit too pricey here so I never bought it after finishing my samples.
Regular hair trims really make a difference for your hair though – it’ll look nice and bouncy again. I used to only get a haircut once or twice a year. A year ago I cut my hair short (like a tousled bob type of style) and it requires a good trim every 6-8 weeks. I noticed that if I follow that schedule, my hair looks so full of life. I barely need any hair product or blow drying. Also, they say that if you want your hair to grow, it needs to be touched by the scissors. Not sure how true it is
I wanted to get their shampoo and conditioner, but they’re just so expensive and I go through bottles so quickly because I. Have. So. Much. Damn. Hair.
Man, I need to break this lazy habit of not maintaining my hair’s upkeep. And you’re totally right about your hair growing better when it’s cut on a regular basis. Just thinking about going every few months makes me nervous! ARGH!
I WISH I could pull off a bob, but my face shape just won’t allow it. LOL
Find a hairstylist you like – you’ll definitely go there frequently
Hair cuts are really, really expensive here. I pay about 130 CAD for my haircut, so I have to plan it properly.
I love my hairstylist though. She’s a bit of a rocker chick who has tattoos and goes for music festivals. She’s too cool and I look forward to seeing her everytime I go for a haircut. We’re always chatting away while she works.
Oh, forgot to mention. A lot of online shops like HQHair and Lookfantastic have Alterna. Sometimes they do good deals as well. Lookfantastic ships worldwide for free.
130CAD??? Whoa is all I can say to that. WHOA.
I’m super awkward in the styling chair. It’s as if my mind goes blank and all I can think about is the weather. That topic goes stale after a few exchanges lol.
I haven’t cut my hair in forever either. Mostly because I can’t stand the thought of spending $50-70 on hair cuts. (And don’t even talk to me about cheaper Asian salons where they browbeat you into a style THEY like, not what you want!)
The oil sounds fantastic… but then again all oils seem very appealing to me lately. I’m still working through a bunch of hair products but might have to try this out when it’s time to shop!
LOL I have gone to one of those Asian salons (on Bloor St.)…. I don’t know what I wanted got lost in translation, but let’s just say I was near tears.
Ask for a sample!
