Unwinding

Mondays are my ‘slow’ or ‘lazy’ days. From Tuesday until Sunday I’m always busy so I take full advantage of Mondays to do nothing. Well, nothing that productive, at least. Or at least I try not to be productive which I just realized I didn’t do today because I am writing this post. Actually, I may have to take that back as it’s now 2:30 am. Ah. Well.

Oh, my mind travels a mile a second with nonsense; it’s a scary place, to say the least. Anyway, after I dropped dear Dashly off at my bf’s (we share ‘custody’ of him), I headed off to the nearest cafe to drink some coffee (oh, how I love you so!) and do… nothing.

An hour and a half was spent doing nothing productive at all. I was on youtube and really hilarious and offbeat sites I frequent. I just sat and sipped on my cup and looked at the sky. It was just AWESOME.

In today’s world where everyone always has a place to go and things to do at any given time, isn’t just so nice to do nothing? I love it.

Oh, and I also finally started using my photobooth… I was all smiles (evidenced in above photo) until I noticed how bad my dark circles are. I mean, MY GOODNESS.

I swear I’m not trying to audition for the role of the undead in Breaking Dawn (I actually read it, yes). So, if there’s anything to be learned in this almost completely pointless post, then it would be to sleep! I am finally paying pulling all those unnecessary all-nighters in school — and big time. And I also should start following my own tips (click here to view) because those dark circles are seriously bad. Well, that is unless I want to get in the business of scaring people.

What anguish I can’t convey to you through words should be apparent enough below.
Or not.

And, no I don’t think I’ll ever win an Oscar for any sort of acting either. :P

What kind of ‘nothing’ do you like to do on your downtime?

Lady Gaga. Where does one begin? From her unique outfits to the wild antics (hello, who wears underwear during an international flight?!), she is constantly upstaging herself. And how does one do this inexhaustibly? By upping the scandal factor one subtle notch after another — something Lady Gaga, who seems to be at the pinnacle of her singing career, excels at.

While I once found her to be a breath of fresh air to the music scene with her public persona, I now find her a little tiring to follow. It’s like I always feel so exhausted just wondering how she manages to survive day to day life what with all the constant planning and details to consider before she steps out all in the name of maintaining her distinctive image — her brand, so to say. Makeup, hair, clothing (or lack of) — getting ready seems to be a constant production for Lady Gaga.

Well, it seems that Lady Gaga has finally gone too far this time by donning a skimpy outfit made of cuts of meat both on the cover of Vogue Hommes Japan and recently at MTV’s VMA. Both dresses were designed by Franc Fernandez who advised those who wish to re-create the piece to “Go to your butcher, get some good cuts and start sewing.” (mtv.ca)

Animal activist group, PETA, argues that the outfit couldn’t have been real as it would have quickly deteriorated and rotted under the bright and hot lights at the event. Gaga and the designer, maintain that it was indeed the real thing.

Okay, real or not, I can’t help but feel a little offended. Is she trying to suggest some kind of women-seen-as-meat symbolism? I am a meat eater myself, but I would never go around town flaunting a slab of meat stuck on a fork to others. But herein lies the problem: are people who wear leather any better? Because at the end of the day, what Lady Gaga has done is no different than any average person wearing a leather jacket, for example.

What do you think? You can enter a quick response in the poll below or, better yet, you can write your own thoughts on this subject.

Do you think Lady Gaga has gone too far with the Meat Dress?

September means TIFF here in Toronto. For those not in the know, TIFF (Toronto International Film Festival) means dozens of Hollywood A-Listers and heavy-weights flock to my city to promote their respective films. It goes without saying that the streets of downtown Toronto are littered with stars and star-gazers.

I’d love to go and I definitely would if work weren’t slowly taking over my life. And why wouldn’t I? It means I’d finally get a chance to possibly meet, talk to, or share the same space (within a 5 mile radius) with Freida Pinto.

Seriously fell in love after seeing bits of Slumdog Millionaire — the movie responsible for catapulting her from anonymity to world wide fame as an actress. Seriously, how fair is it that she’s that gorgeous. And perfect brows, too!

Anyway, back to Tiff. I was watching the 11pm news which showed Freida walking the ‘red carpet’ for her new movie You Will Meet a Tall Dark Stranger when the thought came to me: what the heck does this girl use to get skin like that?!? I was reminded that InStyle magazine had done a feature on her favourite beauty products some months ago and decided to dig that issue up.

So without further ado, here are seriously-out-of-this-world-gorgeous Freida’s beauty must haves:

(Clockwise from top left)
Benefit’s High Beam
“For a natural yet sculpted look, I focus it on my upper cheekbones and just below my brows.”

Victoria’s Secret Body Mist in Love Spell
“The scent is very soothing…I spritz it on my neck and forearms.”

L’Oreal Go 360 Clean Deep Facial Cleanser
“I can’t sleep with makeup on, even just a little bit. I like my skin clean..It leaves my skin refreshed, not dry or irritated.”

Bare Escentuals Flawless Application Face Brush
“Simple, soft and versatile—I love these brushes!”

Le Metier de Beaute Lip Gloss in Bondi Beach
“It’s a lovely shade for both day and night. Plus, it’s long lasting.”

L’Oreal Double Extend Mascara
“This mascara conditions my lashes and makes them look incredibly long.”

Okay, Freida, if by some colossal miracle you come across this page, please contact me because of our love for the wonder that is Benefit High Beam. ASAP ;) .

I haven’t tried L’Oreal’s Double Extend Mascara, Go 360 Deep Clean Facial Cleanser, or any Le Metier de Beaute Lip Gloss. But I have tried Victoria’s Secret Body Mist in Love Spell and Brushes by Bare Escentuals.

Both products I found to be meh, for lack of a better word — Bare Escentual’s face brushes feel very rough and scratchy on my skin while Love Spell smells too overwhelming for me.
