March 2010

So, as I was getting ready for school yesterday I found myself without my lifeline: my makeup bag. Ugh. I had completely forgotten it at my work desk along with the rest of my gym stuff the night before! Obviously, like most makeup junkies out there, I pretty much keep almost all my staples in said bag…. Needless to say, I was at my wit’s end.

The mascara I was stuck with was clumpy; I didn’t have concealer to hide my latest all nighter; and, worse yet, my eyeliner was completely DRY. Like, crying in frustration with eyeliner in fist as I stab the wall kinda dry (I kind of have a flair for dramatics when I’m grumpy and without coffee). When the reality of just how stupid and inane my “dilemma” was is when I had my “A-HA!” moment.

Dummy, you just gotta warm the liner!!

  • Light up a candle, a match, or just plain ol’ lighter and hold the eyeliner at least two inches from it for approximately 5 seconds (any more and you may just melt the tip off completely).
  • Wait a couple of seconds and test the temperature on the inside of your wrist to be safe
  • Alternately, you can also use the blowdryer and hold the eyeliner in front of the nozzle for 30 seconds or until the eyeliner reaches the desired emolliency

Tried it yet?

So I had finally run out of my go-to tinted moisturize, Clinique’s Moisture Tint. So, when nothing could be squeezed out of that tube anymore, I made a trip to Sephora to try other tinted moisturizers out and walked out with Lorac’s tinted moisturizer in In the Buff. (Don’t know what it is, but I seem to have a very short attention span when it comes to makeup/skin care and go from one product to another, though I do have my faves.)

What they say:

ProtecTINT™ SPF 30 Tinted Moisturizer gives skin a natural, healthy glow, while providing protection from the harmful effects of the sun. Its unique formula instantly evens out your complexion and provides a youthful, smooth, no-makeup look and feel and never looks obvious, even close up!

ProtecTINT is quite sheer. In fact, it feels the most lightweight of all the tinted moisturizers I have tried. While it feels so good on the skin, it may not provide the kind of coverage some want; it didn’t really bother me. You can see in the before and after photos on my inner wrist that there isn’t much of a difference. It did, however, make my skin tone more even than without the product; PLUS there is the added SPF 30 that we all need. Personally, I prefer SPF 50, but on days that I’m pretty much indoors (i.e. school and work) I can manage with a lower SPF.

So, if you’re looking for more coverage, then this may not be for you. If coverage is what you want then you may want to try Laura Mercier, Josie Maran, or Clinique (I will be doing a detailed review of the first two) as they have a more “foundation-y” effect on your skin. All three feel heavier (at varying degrees) than Lorac, but you will notice greater coverage.

Guess the question now is: Will I continue using this product? Well, though I don’t LOVE it, I do think it’s quite nice. I really dig the lightweight feel and that it has a reasonably high SPF content. But I also do think that there is more to be desired in terms of pigmentation and price point (it was $40!)
