Merry Christmas!!
Hope everyone stays safe. Eat, laugh, and smile lots. Enjoy this time with your families and let out a sigh of relief; you made it!

Hi Ladies! How is everyone doing? Done your Christmas shopping yet?? As for myself well… I’m a professional procrastinator and leaving things off until the very last minute is a special talent of mine. Essays, projects, shopping, you name it. But there is one thing I can’t procrastinate on and that’s winterizing (is that even a word?) my skin care.
While winter makes everything around us all pretty and fa-la-la-la-la, it can wreak havoc on our skin and hair (as I had written about in one of my previous posts). Our skin loses a lot of moisture all thanks to low humidity in the air and dry indoor air due to the heater. As a result of moisture loss, skin becomes irritated and starts to flake — SO not pretty. So, what can you do to keep your face looking all fresh and glowy? Here are some pretty simple tips:
- Exfoliate, exfoliate, exfoliate. Taking off the excess dead skin cell means allows our skin to absorb moisturizers and creams much more efficiently. Also, this helps our skin look more fresh and vibrant as excess dead skin cells make our skin appear dull.
- During the drier winter months, light moisturizers just won’t cut it which necessitates the use of heavier (oil based) moisturizers or creams. Sometimes I wear vaseline out to walk the dog, take him to the park or even before I go to sleep and I find that really helps in sealing in the moisture.
- Turn that humidifier on to make up for the loss of moisture indoors.
- Never forget to wear SPF. That’s right; just because summer is gone does not mean the sun is on vacation or something. In fact, the snow acts as a mirror reflecting (and amplifying) the sun’s rays back to us which means that SPF is an all year kind of thing.
- Drink lots of water. No explanation needed there.
See, winter skin care really isn’t complicated, right?
Ok back in panic mode. I have to brave the crowds at the mall (ooh I hate crowded malls) and cross off the last few names off my list. Eeeek! Wish me luck!

This is seriously one of my biggest fears: walking around with questionable white powder all over my face. The last thing I want is to let out my secret obsession with mini cheese danish with a generous amount of icing sugar sprinkled on top. Seriously.

While I doubt Nicole Kidman has the same issue with puff pastry, this huge blunder is easily avoidable. Here are some simple tips:
- If you are applying makeup during the day, walk out and look at yourself in the mirror in natural light.
- Always have a large clean, fluffy brush handy. Use this to sweep off any excess powder. Fan brushes are also good.
- Take a photo of yourself! Make sure the flash is on so that everything appears on the screen. Now you have a perfect excuse anytime someone catches you taking photos of yourself and accuses you of being narcissistic. Bonus!!
- Try to stick with translucent powder – if you do have excess product on your skin, it won’t be as noticeable. But the real trick is to buff, buff, and buff! I cannot stress the importance of buffing enough. Buffing powder on your skin means taking your powder brush and working in the powder on your skin in large circular motions.
- Find another makeup artist. Seriously, a good makeup artist will never ever let you walk on red carpet with your face short of flawless. This also happened with Taraji Henson which Renee at BeautyFool wrote about.
