November 2009

I love winter. I love snow; the festive spirit everyone seems to have; that Christmas is just around the corner; the Christmas songs playing on almost every station, store, and restaurant 24/7 for an entire month.

I also LOVE watching my all time faves such as Home Alone (I and II) and A Christmas Story and the idea of sipping hot chocolate in front of the fireplace with a good book (I say idea because my family is Filipino and, by nature, talk loud and have an innate love for the one good thing on earth: karaoke). Plus, my mom and the vacuum are bff’s. It goes without saying

My one MAJOR issue with winter, however, does not involve slush filling up my shoes at the start of a very long day, or slipping and falling on my ass at school in front of countless people, or getting stuck in a snowstorm and getting home only to find that my mascara had run all the way down to my chin (how very avant garde! Now if only others would realize that was the look I had been going for in the first place).

NO, it’s hair static (see, there was a point to this post, after all :P ).

What’s the science behind static hair?

I Happily Eat My Words

A couple of posts ago, I had remarked that I wasn’t a huge fan of black hair on our beloved Kristen Stewart for her shoot with Robert Pattinson in this month’s Harper’s Bazaar. Was it the lighting? The way her hair was styled? A combination of both or some other?

Well, as my post title already suggests, I happily eat my words because DAMN she looks so good with black hair. Her eyes. Her skin! It’s so luminous and flawless. Le sigh.

And props to whoever her makeup artist is for emphasizing her green eyes.

If you want to achieve the same look, here are some pointers:

  • Sweep taupe-brown eyeshadow all over the lids. I think MAC’s Satin Taupe is perfect for this.
  • Using a rounded crease brush (like Sephora’s # 10, a personal fave, or MAC’s #217) lightly blend a dark brown or even black eye shadow on the “outer-V’s” of your eyes. The outer-v’s is generally where darker eye shadow is applied to create that sultry, smoky look.
  • Finally, using a champagne colored shimmery eye shadow (try MAC’s Shroom), highlight the brow bones (just beneath the eyebrows) and the inner corners of the eyes close to your tear ducts.
  • Just curl your eyelashes and swipe on your fave black mascara and you are good to go!

How is everyone?? Just finished an 8 hour shift and I am dead tired. Seriously considered dragging my lazy bum to the gym right after work but figured that I’m better off to just rest tonight and go hard tomorrow.

The hardest thing about working out (for me at least) is actually getting to the gym. Once there, I find that it’s much easier to get into the work outs. But I think being surrounded by ridiculously fit people kind of plays a huge role in the motivating me :S.

One thing that I always look forward to when I go to the gym is the conclusion: shower. And, oh, how good it has been since I threw Soap and Glory’s Clean on Me into the mix.com

The product is not overpowering, nor is it too faint that you find yourself wondering why you even bother to use it. The scent is not, for lack of a better word, “matronly.” Nor is it too “young.” It lathers up quite nicely, has a built in lotion (although I still use lotion afterward since I am prone to dry skin), and the packaging is just kitsch heaven for me.  Price wise, it’s quite affordable (I bought mine on sale for $10 CAD, but is $13-15 regular)

Sadly, this product is currently only available in the UK (Harvey Nichols and Boots), US (Target), and Canada (Shoppers Drugmart, though I espied some at Pharma Plus on Eglinton near Bathurst).

I actually was never really into the whole bath and shower products until very recently. Now, it’s an indulgence I can’t live without because, seriously,  who does not look forward to unwinding with a nice warm bath/shower after a hectic day?

OK. I’m back to watching Buffy. I have been on a Buffy, The Vampire Slayer binge lately. Partly because it just all sorts of awesome and partly because I am always taken back to my teenage years. Oh, awkward Mary of 1997-2004, how far you’ve come along.

And since we’re on the topic of Buffy…this had me laughing in stitches.

Care to share any bath faves?
