Happy Halloween! Anyone at all dressing up for a party tonight? Me? Well, the only time I wore a “costume” for trick or treat was in 6th grade and I dressed up as a high school student; sweater, kilt, the works. And, no, absolutely no one got my costume but gave me candy out of pity anyway. haha I wasn’t even a dead high school girl but at the time I thought I was so badass!! Anyway, in keeping with the Halloween spirit, I thought why not share a weird (and kinda gross) beauty fact.
DID you know that you might be wearing Cochineal, a certain type of beetle, on your lips or your cheeks right now?
GROSS, I KNOW! But so true:S.
Cochineal is used to make crimson dye used to add red pigment to many types of foods, clothes, and makeup. So, that means your red lipstick or blush owes its hue to the Cochineal. It can also be found in yogurt, popsicles, juice, and Jello (JELLOOO!!) to name a few.
I was shocked when I first found out that I was literally drinking bug juice. :#
My life will never be the same. Poor bugs.
Got any weird beauty facts yourself? Why not share them in the comments?
Those who know me know that I absolutely love a good laugh. Even better if I start crying out of laughter. Laughter is my drug hahaha. Anyway, here’s an example of what not to do in a yoga class. Unless you don’t want anyone to take you seriously.
Puts a whole new meaning to exercise exorcise, doesn’t it?
You know the feeling when you discover that the new product you’ve been testing out just may be the life saver you’ve been searching for all your life?! Well, I got that feeling when I tried Murad’s Exfoliating Acne Treatment Gel. I started to break out two weeks ago just underneath my undereyes (I suspect my DIY bangs caused it.)
So, out of sheer desperation, I bought the Acne pack at Sephora which was actually a mistake — more on that later. HOWEVER, one product stood out and it is the Exfoliating Acne Treatment Gel. My skin was clear in just two-three nights!!
This is applied after cleansing and toning and is then followed by your moisturizer. It’s got Retinol and Glycolic Acid (to exfoliate the skin and control breakouts) as well as Licorice extract and Aloe Vera (to soothe the skin.) My skin is combination and I found this product to be fine; not at all drying. Man, I just LOVE LOVE LOVE this product!
Ok… As to why buying the Acne Complex Kit was a mistake. Well, let’s just say that I was in a state of panic (hey, don’t judge ) and foolishly thought I needed the entire regimen. The biggest issue was that it was too much on my skin, especially when I’m not prone to acne. My skin ended up being extremely dry, especially around my chin and some on my cheeks. So, here are just some pointers:
Please do your research before using anything quite drastic such as this one.
Ask for a sample, if you can. Sephora gives out pretty generous product samples which is just amazing.
Consider carefully what you need the product for. In my case I just needed to get rid of pimples, not acne.
Try to be indiscriminate; cheaper does not necessarily translate to lower quality and minimal results.
Lastly, and perhaps most importantly, take a deep breath and DO NOT PANIC. lol
Anyone else with their own miracle product? Do share them, please
